Hi! My name is Deborah Keaton, I'm running for Treasurer of the VNC.

I’ve been a resident of Venice for over 34 years, and I am in my first term on the VNC board. As Chair of the Ocean Front Walk Committee, I have worked to bring a positive, heartfelt, and solution-focused approach to our community efforts.

This election, I am running for Treasurer. With over 30 years of experience running my own successful business in Venice, I have developed a strong understanding of how to maintain positive healthy relationships, manage projects, deadlines, and most importantly, budgets and finances. My business experience has honed my ability to make thoughtful, strategic financial decisions, ensuring both sustainability and growth.

I believe in collaboration, kindness, and compromise to achieve the best outcomes for our community. There’s no room for negativity, egos, axe-grinding, or unproductive behavior—only forward momentum and teamwork.

If elected, I will apply my skills to ensure fiscal responsibility, transparency, and community-focused funding for Venice. My approach will prioritize clear communication, responsible budgeting, and making every dollar count to improve the quality of life for all. I believe in a "let's get it done together" attitude that fosters collaboration and shared success.

As Treasurer, I will be committed to maintaining financial accountability and allocating the necessary funding to support key community projects through thoughtful allocation of resources. I will work to bring funding into our community while ensuring it’s used in the most effective, impactful way possible. We are allocated $34,000 per term and I don’t believe in leaving any funds on the table that could wisely be spent to help the people of Venice.

On a personal note, for the past 15+ years, my family has hosted a potluck music night called the "Think Positive Party." Founded in 2009, when we were expecting our daughter and the economy was uncertain, my husband and I decided we needed to focus on the positive. Thus, the "Think Positive" music night was born, and later that same year, so was our daughter. This event, which now brings together over 150 locals, wonderful talented musicians, comedians and the indescribable, for a night of music, food and fellowship. This is just one example of how my family and I have worked to build and strengthen the fabric of our Venice community.

Our daughter now attends Venice High, and I continue to be a proud supporter of LAUSD, having served in PTA and as a Girl Scout Leader. I am committed to making Venice a better place for all. I would be honored to serve as your Treasurer.

Thank you for your support!
